What you can and can't look up
Our plate lookup returns vehicle information — VIN, year, make, model, trim. It does not return personal information about the vehicle's owner. Federal law (the Driver's Privacy Protection Act) restricts who can access owner information from plate lookups, and that data isn't available through public services.
If you need full vehicle history — accidents, title brands, service records, prior owners count, recalls — that information is in the Carfax report, which we sell for $4.99.

Is this license plate lookup really free?

Does this show the owner's name and address?
No. Federal privacy law (DPPA) restricts owner lookups to law enforcement, insurance companies, and a few other approved uses. Our tool returns vehicle information only.
Why couldn't you find my plate?
Some plates aren't in our database — particularly older plates, vanity plates with non-standard characters, or plates from very recent vehicle registrations. Try double-checking the state and plate number.
What states are supported?
All 50 US states. Coverage is best for plates registered in the last 10 years.
